Inspiring design #4

Serum is a virtual wavetable synthesiser with a truly high-quality sound and creative workflow-oriented interface. It takes inspiration from the design of analog synthesisers but with the immense power and modularity of digital software instruments.

Playback of wavetables requires digital resampling to play different frequencies. Serum uses ultra high-precision resampling, yielding an almost inaudible signal-to-noise ratio. Serum’s oscillator playback has been aggressively optimised using SSE2 instructions to minimise CPU usage without loss of quality. Wavetables can be generated and modified using FFT.

The sheer number of features and effects Serum has means its sound design capabilities are nearly endless.
